Free submissions for local filmmakers

Calling all Ottawa filmmakers!

Mirror Mountain Film Festival welcomes to you submit your drama, comedy, fantasy, horror, sci-fi, documentary, music video and more, absolutely free!

We’re looking for homegrown talent for LOCAL HEROES, our showcase of the best short films from the Ottawa area. We’ve been proud to present 80 shorts by Ottawa filmmakers over the years, and we’re excited to screen more at our next festival happening July 2023!

Not only is submission free of charge for any films shot and/or edited in the region, but anyone who submits also receives a complimentary pass to attend the whole festival – also free!

We’re honoured to announce that the City of Ottawa’s Arts Funding program has awarded Mirror Mountain Film Festival a grant to help us put on our 2023 festival. Their generous assistance will give us essential resources for presenting our 6th edition, and help us to support independent film and video artists from the Ottawa region and beyond. Did you know locally-produced films can be submitted for free?

If you made a film that was shot and/or edited anywhere within a 125km radius of downtown Ottawa, you are welcome to submit it to Mirror Mountain Film Festival free of charge!

This area includes Gatineau, Maniwaki, Mont Tremblant, Montebello, Hawkesbury, Cornwall, Potsdam, Brockville, Smiths Falls, Perth, Renfrew, Arnprior and more!

Meet our team: Jess Maybear

Introducing our new board member! Ottawa stage designer, stage manager and longtime MMFF jury member extraordinaire Jess Maybear is joining Mirror Mountain’s volunteer board of directors. Jess will help the festival grow as we continue to expand and learn more and more about the world of non-profit organizations. We’re very happy to have them on our team!

Meet our team: Efehan Elbi

Introducing our new jury! Canadian director, animator and game designer Efehan Elbi is joining our interactive media selection committee. For the first time ever, Mirror Mountain Film Festival is accepting submissions of works that allow the audience to participate directly, including VR, explorable 360° video spaces, videogames, AR, film/video installations, net art and more. Efehan will help us choose an interactive piece that will be displayed in the festival lounge at our next edition! A playable demo of IN COLD DARK, an existential space adventure game created by Efehan and done\undone, premiered at Mirror Mountain as part of our 2019 festival. We’re thrilled to be working with them again!

Meet our team: Lisa Birke

Introducing our new jury! Canadian media artist Lisa Birke will be a part of our first ever interactive media selection committee. Mirror Mountain Film Festival is currently accepting submissions from anywhere in the world of works that allow the audience to participate directly, including VR, explorable 360° video spaces, playable videogames, film/video installations, net art and more. Lisa will lend her expertise to help us select an interactive media piece for temporary exhibition in the lounge at the next edition of our festival. Her 360° video THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY was featured at Mirror Mountain as part of our 2021 edition. We’re excited to work with her again, and to welcome her to our team!
